What is an umbrella stroller?
An umbrella stroller is a sub-category of lightweight strollers that are typically defined by the fold design, weight, curved handle style, limited features, and price of the stroller itself. Over time, the term umbrella stroller has been blurred and confused into the category of lightweight strollers in general, but traditionally umbrella strollers are their own category.
An umbrella stroller will typically come with two single handles (otherwise known as shotgun handles). These handles will typically be curved and once the stroller is folded the handles could hang on a rack or hook similar to the handle of an umbrella and its handle. The stroller will typically fold inward and down to the ground to create a long narrow folded size.
Umbrella strollers typically weigh close to nothing, ranging from 5lbs to 15lbs. They have very limited features generally speaking and can cost anywhere in the range of $10-500, but traditionally true umbrella strollers are on the cheap side, ranging from $10-100.
