Dear Mom Struggling to be Perfect
Stop trying to be perfect!! Relax and give yourself a break!
Stop trying to do it all. Stop looking at other moms and pointing out your own faults. Stop caring about doing what everyone expects of you.
[wp_ad_camp_2]There is never going to be a time when you have all of the answers you need or can fix all of the problems that your children have. You will not be able to make all of their pain go away.
There are times when you have to take a step back.
There are times when you are going to fail at your goal of not having your children sit in front of the TV, sometimes those failures might last for weeks.
There are times when you might need to be honest and say, “No, I am not ever going to play Minecraft with you…I don’t like it.”
There are times when you are going to be running late and need to pick up McDonald’s way more than you should.
There are times when your child might have to get their own Band-Aid…especially if there is no real reason for that Band-Aid in the first place.
There are times when you will have things that come up and your child might have to miss something.
There are times when you just need to ignore the moms who are telling you that you are doing it wrong. What is best for one mom and one family is not always going to be best for you and your family.
There are times when you might need to ignore some of the dirt in your home. Stop trying to do it all alone. Give your children chores and ignore their complaining or when they do not quite meet your standards.
There are times when you need to go get that massage, go to a movie alone, or just listen to music to calm yourself amidst the chaos.
There are times when ice cream is fine for breakfast.
There are times when you are not going to be able to do it by yourself.
There are times when you can be a mom that is just so-so. It is harder for your kids to watch you struggle with trying to be perfect than it is for them to see you be mediocre but yourself.
There are times – no, I take that back, all of the time – you will need to stop taking the things that your children do to manipulate you personally. Ignore their complaining, whining, and manipulative remarks remembering that this is all just an elaborate scheme for them to get what they want.
There are times when you can say no and not feel bad.
There are times when you must realize that being a mom is just a game that all moms are playing. If a mom acts like she knows how to be a mom, she is lying to you and possibly to herself too.
There are times when you are not going to be able to shower. Make-up? Now that is a thing of the past once you become a mom.
Nearly every day you will be seen with a ponytail or bun, in yoga pants, and with a sweatshirt on.
Since your children know that you love them, they are going to be pretty resilient to your bad moods and when you fail at being a mom.
Love,
The Laughing Mommy
