Erica Lynn Mesa, a former volleyball coach and math teacher at a high school in central Virginia recently pleaded guilty to multiple charges of sexual abuse. Her conviction is the latest chapter of a scandalous case that came to light at the beginning of the 2014 school year. Mesa admitted to having sexual intercourse with several high school students at an undisclosed high School in Stafford County, Virginia late last year.

In a confession given to the Stafford County Sheriff and his deputies, Mesa said her reason for having sexual intercourse with the students was because doing so made her feel both attractive and wanted. One of the victims was underage at the time. Another victim was pressured in having sexual intercourse in her car while parked in a commuter lot to mark the occasion of his eighteenth birthday.

Mesa faces a sentence of up to 22 years in prison with no chance of parole. In addition to serving time in prison, she must undergo mandatory counseling and also register as a sex offender.
