Disney Princesses Altered to Look More Realistic & Healthy

For all the moms out there with young daughters aspiring to princesses, maybe it’s time to take a second look.

Recently, Loryn Brantz, a writer for Buzzfeed’s fast news website, decided that she would take a stab at making the Disney Princesses a little bit more realistic. She selected Ariel (“The Little Mermaid”), Aurora (“Sleeping Beauty”), Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”), Pocahontas (“Pocahontas”), Jasmine (“Aladdin”), and Elsa (“Frozen”) to be her subjects for waistline changes.

Many of you may not have looked recently, but the hips of all of those princesses…DO lie! Their torsos are so triangular that their bosoms to their hips almost form a perfect downward triangle. In a culture where we are saturated with false images of women, Disney isn’t helping to inspire a true reality of women’s beauty in our little girls.

So, after a couple photoshop changes were made to the six different Disney princesses, you would be amazed at how much more realistic the girls looked. Originally, their hips were so pencil-like that it was almost laughable (although you never would have noticed their odd shape if it wasn’t pointed out to you). Now, the princesses are perfectly proportioned.

Believe it or not, all six of the Disney princesses were still utterly beautiful. None of them looked fat, ugly, or otherwise pitiful in any way. Rather, due to their newfound realism, it would seem as though other real people are now able to resonate with the image that they promote even more.

With all of that said, Disney does promote many good things for our children. Not everything Disney is wicked all of a sudden. However, it is quite sad that Disney has followed the false body image train all of these years. And, honestly, it’s more sad that we haven’t really noticed until now.

So, next time that you sit down to watch a Disney movie with your daughter or son, make sure that you enjoy it for the good values that it promotes, but make sure that your children understand that not all of what is portrayed is reality.
